After the Driver air bag deploys in a collision, it and the Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly w/Lower Steering Column Coupler need to be replaced. All other air bags and car parts with visible damage should be replaced as well. Any time a Passenger air bag is deployed, the Passenger air bag and Instrument Panel Top Pad Assembly must be changed, along with similar inspections and replacements of other parts. After deploying a Curtain air bag, the Curtain air bag Assembly, Headliner and all side trim panels on the deployed side must be repaired or changed, plus thorough checks of other parts. A damaged Occupant Classification Module, Passenger air bag Disabled Indicator or Seat Weight Sensor will need repair or replacement and the entire OCS should be re-zeroed. Never change out both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the OCM together, since doing so can result in serious faults. Whenever a frontal impact causes an air bag to deploy, the Front Seat Belt and Retractor (driver and passenger) with integral Tensioners have to be switched and all other seat belts must be checked and replaced as needed. After an impact event, look for damage in the Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) child restraint anchors and replace them when needed. Do not connect the battery negative cable until after you have carried out all system tests to avoid personal injury or death. Once the air bag system test is done and passes, a safety check must be done with a scan tool to ensure everything is in order.
