2005 Chrysler Crossfire Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: What Precautions Should Be Taken Before Servicing Airbag-Equipped Steering Wheels on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Before starting any work on a car with air bags, break the connection to the SRS battery by disconnecting the negative cable and then don't start until two minutes have passed-to avoid unintentional air bag release and risks of injury. Put on rubber gloves, goggles and a long-sleeved shirt before you try to remove an air bag, as some potential irritants may be on the cushion and surfaces in the car. Before removing the steering wheel, start by breaking the negative battery connection, pushing the adjustable column fully, centering the steering wheel with the front wheels ahead, locking it with the ignition key and unscrewing the air bag screws. Use a long hex tool to take out the countersunk screw as you hold and control the steering wheel, route the air bag connector out through the steering wheel's hole and lift the steering wheel out of the car. Examine the horn/air bag and clock spring contacts and change them if you detect any harm. When installing the vehicle, first deactivate the supplemental restraint system as described. Make sure the splined areas in your steering wheel are even with the markings on the steering shaft, set the bolt to 80 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and apply the air bag screws. When the steering wheel has an offset greater than 1 tooth, the turn signal indicator will be incorrect, so adjust it so the SRS malfunction lamp does not illuminate when in full lock either way; steering wheel should be centered and front wheel toe-in adjusted if the offset is higher.
