2005 Chrysler Pacifica Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: Is It Possible to Replace the Water Pump Without Discharging the Air Conditioning System on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: The water pump on all models can be changed without emptying the air conditioning system. Do not remove the pressure cap from a hot system under pressure, as this increases risk of severe burns from coolant. It's normal for some coolant to leak from the weep hole, but large deposits or a strong flow of coolant are signs of a water pump seal problem and the pump should be replaced after inspection. First, drain the cooling system and then take out the engine timing belt. At the next step, unscrew the reservoir bolts, pay attention to where the long bolt is and then take out the water pump. Whenever required, check and clean both water pump and gasket contact surfaces; inspect the pump for any damage, splits, broken coolant pipes, impeller rubbing the rear timing belt cover or bearings that are too loose or rough. Once you observe any of these conditions, swap the water pump. Wipe all the O-ring connections on the pump and top cover, insert Mopar Dielectric Grease or an equivalent silicone grease into each O-ring groove and then fit a new O-ring onto the water pump. Mount the water pump close to the engine, put in the mounting bolts and make sure they are flush at 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). After that, fit the timing belt again and top up the cooling system.
