2005 Chrysler Sebring Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service and Repair a Driver Air Bag on 2005 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Begin your Driver air bag service by opening the hood and disconnecting the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post, then wait two minutes for the system reserve capacitor to discharge. Unscrew the speed control switch on the back cover of your steering wheel, pop out the switches and unplug the electrical wires. After that, detach the two bolts holding the Driver air bag in place, lift the air bag, sever the air bag initiators and horn switch wires and remove the Driver air bag from the vehicle. If a Driver air bag is being replaced, also change the clock spring to prevent injury or death to users. To install the clock spring, detach the battery, hook up the lead wire from the clock spring to the horn switch and the air bag initiator connectors and make sure the clock spring's grey connector joins with the air bag's grey connector, while its black connector attaches to the black connector on the air bag. Mount the Driver air bag with the two torx bolts, checking that they are tightened to 9.6 ± 1 N.m (85 ± 10 in. lbs.), then connect the wire connectors to the speed control switches and secure the switches with the proper screws. Prior to connecting the battery negative cable remote terminal, inspect and check the air bag system to stop any chance of personal injury or death to those in the vehicle.
