2005 Chrysler Sebring Torque Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Torque Converter in the 41TE Automatic Transaxle on 2005 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Bring the vehicle into position and using a drain pan, make sure the transmission and torque converter can be safely lifted without spilling fluids out of the housing. Since removing the torque converter will shift the car's center of gravity, be sure the transmission is not rotating, as this could lead to danger. Bring the converter towards you, moving it forward slowly until the center hub comes out of the oil pump, before you can remove the assembly from the transmission. Before placing the converter hub and drive in position, check for sharp edges or burs and use 320/400 grit paper or crocus cloth to make the surface smooth so the pump seal is not damaged. Put oil on the converter hub and seal lip where the oil pump seal connects with the transmission and make sure not to damage anything as you align the torque converter to the transmission. Put the torque converter in position with the oil pump seal and fit the hub into the pump. Slowly press the converter so it fits into the oil pump gears and rotate it until it's in place. Make sure your seating gauge is 1/2 in. behind the straightedge as described, checking the surface of the converter lugs with a scale and straightedge. When lifting with a C-clamp is helpful, secure the converter in its housing temporarily, insert the transmission and then fill the fluid according to the instructions.
