Q: How to Remove and Install the ABS Control Module for the Hydraulic Control Assembly on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: Start by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery, securing it so it is not connected and then take out the battery and its shield. Clear the vacuum hose at the tank inside the battery tray, shut off the screw attached to the battery tray and engine coolant filler neck and transfer out the battery tray. Attach a brake pedal depressor to depress the brake pedal more than the first inch, so the master cylinder doesn't lose brake fluid. Take apart the wiring from the speed control servo, unscrew the nuts that attach it to the chassis and slide the servo to one side. To remove the connector from the CAB, pull up the yellow lock. Wipe down all of the ICU's and brake tube nut surfaces with Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner and then remove the brake tubes from the HCU's inlet and outlet points. Place the steering wheel in the center and prop it, remove the pinch bolt to separate the steering shaft coupling and if you have one, take out the clips securing the silencer to the dash seal and the dash seal itself. Detach the three bolts attaching the ICU to the bracket and position it so you can clean it through the side of the engine compartment. To install, fit the ICU into its bracket under the master cylinder and tighten the upper mounting bolt down first. Within the vehicle, add the other two mounting bolts and tighten each to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.). After that, install the dash seal and three screws and, if you have one, the silencer. Tie together the steering shaft and sealant duct, then tighten the bolt with 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.), giving it a quarter turn until the bolt clicks. Install each brake tube in the correct position on the HCU valve block, holding them so they don't touch other components and then tighten their nuts to no more than 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Connect each chassis brake tube to the port on the HCU valve block where it goes and use a torque wrench to tighten the nuts to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Put the seal into the 24-way connector first and then attach it to the CAB socket and push it down until it's correctly positioned, locking it in place. Attach any routing clips to the brake tubes, remove the brake pedal holder and put the speed control servo on with the mounting nuts. Attach the end of the wiring harness to the speed control servo, put back the battery tray, screw in the coolant filler neck, attach the vacuum hose and place the battery and its shield. Once you're done, attach the negative battery cable, flash and bleed both the Base and ABS brake hydraulic lines and test the connected systems on the road to make sure they are working.
