The first step in servicing or fixing the 2.4L engine's power steering return hose is to cap the reservoir, use the siphon pump and take out as much fluid as you can. Lift the vehicle, then take out the front vapor emissions canister and make sure you put an oil catch pan underneath. Pull the sleeves of the securement bundle away by cutting the securing tie-strap and revealing the hose clamp near the power steering pump. Remove the clamp afterward and pull the return hose away from the power steering pump. After that, come loose the two bolts connecting the power steering cooler to the cradle crossmember reinforcement and remove the bolts holding the routing clamps to the front suspension cradle crossmember. Once these are detached, pull out the return hose from the clamp. Press the return hose tube nut inward and remove the hose from the gear. For installation, take out the old O-rings at the hose ends and clean all three (the ends of the hose, the power steering pump fitting and the steering gear port) with a lint-free towel. Fit a new O-ring on the return hose at the power steering gear and moisturize it using some clean power steering fluid. Be sure not to bend the tube ends when installing to prevent any leaks or problems. If you are replacing the hose alone and it doesn't come with a heat sleeve, set the heat shield from the old hose on the replacement part. Move the hose to the space behind the rear crossmember and put the gear end into the gear port, leaving the hose tube nut loose for now. Tighten the nut on the return hose tube at the power steering gear port to 31 Nm (275 inch lbs.) and fit the power steering fluid cooler to the cradle crossmember reinforcement, holding it in place with bolts tightened to 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.). Keep the power steering fluid hoses far from the exhaust system and any cold parts. Take the hose that leads out of the pump and run it over the crossmember to its location by the pump, bending it only at proper angles and fit the remaining return hose to the power steering pump's return fitting, holding it on with a clamp that you tighten to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.). Cover the rubber hose with the heat shield sleeve and set the insulating heat shield inside the clamp on the return hose, securing it with a tie-strap. Once you have everything, place the emissions vapor canister at the front, lower the vehicle and bleed and fill the power steering before looking for leaks.
