2006 Dodge Caravan Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose on a 2.4L Engine for Pressure Hose on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: You should start by loosening the cap on the power steering fluid reservoir and extracting as much fluid from the hose with a siphon pump. After elevating the car, remove the front emissions vapor canister and set an oil drain pan below to catch anything that comes out. Back the tube nut out from the power steering pump pressure fitting and remove the hose from the pump. Unbolt the clamp on the right side from the suspension cradle crossmember and pull the pressure hose out of the clamp. After that, unscrew the pressure hose tube bolt at the power steering gear and pull out the hose. For installation, throw out any worn O-rings and wipe the inside of the hose after cutting it, as well as the ends of the power steering hose and the pressure outlet on the pump. Replace the O-rings found at the ends of the high-pressure hose for the power steering fluid, then treat them with some clean power steering fluid. Do not bend the tube ends as that can cause leaks and issues and position the hoses so they do not touch the exhaust system and dangerous areas. Route the hose near the crossmember to the power steering pump, making sure the hose isn't bent tightly anywhere. Attach the hose to the pressure outlet fitting and screw the tube nut by hand, but do not tighten it up yet. Put the line behind the cradle crossmember and lower the end into the gear port; you should not tighten the tube nut yet. Slide the hose into its intended routing clamp, secure it with the supplied mounting bolt and torque it with a key to the specification of 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). When you adjust the pressure hose, place it againt the fluid return hose that comes out of the pump. In the end, secure the pressure hose tube nuts at the pump and the gear to 31 Nm (275 inch lbs.), mount back the front emissions vapor canister, lower the car, top up and bleed the power steering system and check for any leaks.
