2005 Dodge Dakota Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Battery Cable for Negative on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, turn the ignition to Off, then make sure all the electrical equipment is turned off. Loosen and pull off the nut 14 which holds the negative battery terminal 7 to the brace 5 on the driver's side. Use the pushpins 5, fasteners and routing clips to secure the battery cable, then separate the cable from your vehicle. Hoist the vehicle and pull the bolt 3 loose. Unhook the negative cable 1 from the engine harness conduit and then take out the attached battery cable from the vehicle. Run the negative battery cable behind the battery and 4 into the engine harness conduit, followed by installing the EPS electrical connector and tightening all six of its securing pushpins. Attach bolt 2 to ensure that negative cable eyelet 3 sits on the left front fender, lift the vehicle with a hoist and position bolt 3 to secure negative cable 1to engine block 2. Return to leveling the vehicle, attach one final end of a jumper wire to the negative battery cable and see how the vehicle runs.
