2006 Dodge Dakota Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Battery Cable for Positive on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first thing to do when servicing or repairing the battery cable is to put the ignition switch to Off and make sure that all electrical accessories are turned off. Remove the negative battery cable from the car's wire frame. Ease the clamp on the air inlet hose and undo the bolts from the air intake resonator; after that, pull out the resonator from the vehicle. Take out the nut from the Integrated Power Module (IPM) stud, lift off the positive cable terminal clamp, remove the nut from the cable to the alternator and put the terminal cap aside. To eliminate the electrical link from the starter solenoid, disconnect its wire harness connector and remove the battery cable retaining pushpin attaching the cable to the left frame rail. Raise the car on a hoist, disconnect the bolt locking the cable to the starter solenoid and take off the battery cable retaining pushpin from the engine block. Elevate the car and take out the positive wire from the battery. Install the battery cable positive wire by placing it in the car and securing, first to the IPM stud and next to the alternator. Screw the cable pushpin to the rail located in the left side and then attach the starter solenoid wire harness connector. Lift the vehicle into a hoist, add the nut to the cable and place the battery cable retaining pushpin on the engine block. Pull the vehicle down, snap in the red alligator clamp to the battery plus terminal, install the resonator inside, screw the bolts into the air intake resonator and close the band clamp around the air inlet tube. Then, link the battery negative cable terminal clamp and check whether the vehicle operates correctly.
