2005 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Adjust Timing on a Single Camshaft on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before adjusting the timing, use Chain Tensioner Wedge, Special Tool 8379 and mark where the chain touches the sprocket on the secondary chain drive for reference. Take off the camshaft drive gear and put it in the chain so that the V6 marks line up with each other. Slide the Special Tool 8428 Camshaft Wrench around the camshaft while watching the alignment dowel on the camshaft. Stop rotating when the alignment dowel lines up with the slot in the camshaft drive gear. Removing any leftover oil from the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt will protect against over-tightening and a possible broken bolt once it goes back in. Put the camshaft drive gear onto the camshaft, clean the metal from the bolt and place the retaining bolt inside. Attach your Special Tools, Spanner Wrench 6958 with Adapter Pins 8346 to a suitable torque wrench and tighten the retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) Afterward, get rid of Special Tool 8379, turn the crankshaft two complete times and check that the marks on the camshaft drive gear V6 are aligned. Once all the needed bolts are installed, cover the cylinder heads.
