2005 Dodge Durango Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Alternator on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: To work on the alternator, disconnect the negative battery wire before starting to avoid harming the system. Release the drive belt in the correct way as described in the manual. Pull the plastic insulator cap off the B+ output terminal and unscrew the B+ terminal mounting nut at the rear of the generator and then disconnect the terminal. Release the field wire connection at the back of the generator by pressing on the tab. With the rear bolt out, also remove the two front mounting bolts and remove the generator from your car. While installing, attach the generator to the engine and use the given specifications to tighten the three bolts: two horizontal and one vertical. Put the end of the field wire connector into the back of the generator and secure the mounted eyelet to the generator's B+ terminal stud with the specified nut. Never try to pry the belt over a pulley rim with a screwdriver which could damage the synthetic fibers. Place the serpentine accessory drive belt correctly to stop the water pump from running in the wrong way which might result in engine overheating. After that, fit the generator drive belt and plug the negative cable back into the battery.
