2005 Dodge Magnum Seat Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Seat Motor for Height Adjustment on 2005 Dodge Magnum?
A: First, remember that when a seat is used under heavy load, its locking mechanism might become activated and cause symptoms such as loosened locking pawl, locking pawl caught in the inside of the seat frame while height adjuster functions on only one side or a broken or missing shear pin. If you see any of these symptoms, put in a new height adjuster assembly to stay safe instead of trying to fix it. If the motor is faulty and the seat is still down, take care when unscrewing fasteners from the motor, since the adjuster mechanism may cause the motor to turn. When the height adjust motor works, push the power seat as far upward as it will go and then only remove the battery. The first step is to break the battery's negative cable connection and then take out the seat that has the motor that isn't working. After that, lift off the seat cushion and take out the pan, pull out the motor connector from the electrical hole and get rid of the fasteners holding the motor to the seat adjuster. Unscrew the mop, washer and gear on the shaft of the motor and take the motor assembly off the seat adjuster. Before placing the seat adjuster on the motor, raise the seat adjuster all the way up by pulling on the upper adjuster assembly and sitting the motor on the seat adjuster. After that, attach the motor shaft screw and washer, tightening until snug but not putting any torque at this point. Attach the screws above the motor to the seat adjuster, twisting the motor a bit if needed to get the holes aligned and tighten the motor screws to 9 N.m (80 in.lbs.). Finally, secure the motor shaft screw and washer to 6.5 N.m (57.5 in.lbs.). Attach the motor connector, fit the seat cushion, fasten the wire harness to the cushion pan, mount the seat assembly, reconnect the battery ground cable and see that the seat movements are normal.
