2005 Dodge Neon Engine Mount Torque Strut Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Engine Mount Torque Strut on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Pull off the upper engine mount torque strut first by taking out the bolts that connect it to the engine mount and to the shock tower. Then put the vehicle on a hoist and remove the splash shield and the pencil strut. Loosen the screws that fasten the lower strut to the crossmember and strut bracket and carry out the lower engine mount torque strut. For installation, put the upper engine mount torque strut into its right places and fix the mounting bolts, then go on to the torque strut adjustment. In addition, sit the lower engine mount torque strut in position, secure it with the bolts, do the necessary adjustment, reconnect the pencil strut and put back the accessory drive belt splash shield as you lower the vehicle. For adjusting the rack, release pressure on the top and bottom bolts connecting the strut and torque member to the suspension crossmember and shock tower bracket. Position the forward edge of the transmission bell housing over a suitable floor jack, then slowly adjust the engine to avoid lifting it much higher. Following engine installation, disconnect the bolts attaching the upper and lower engine mount torque struts to the shock tower bracket and suspension crossmember. Attach the torque strut bolts without torquing them, then lift the engine a little at the rear until the distance between where the engine mount stud is and the hole for the washer hose clip on the tower bracket is 119 mm (4.70 inch). When the engine is in the proper spot, tighten the upper and lower engine mount torque strut bolts each to 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.) and take the floor jack away.
