Dodge Neon Engine Mount Torque Strut Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Adjust the Engine Mount Torque Strut for Optimal Engine Positioning and Mount Loading on Dodge Neon?
    A:
The adjustment of the engine mount torque strut requires its upper and lower torques to be adjusted together so the engine remains properly positioned and the mounts have the right amount of pressure whenever a bolt comes loose. Start by releasing the upper and lower attachments of the engine mount torque strut bolt to the suspension crossmember and shock tower bracket. Along the bell housing's forward edge, place a suitable floor jack so the engine only has to be raised a little when you adjust it. Secure the engine and then undo the upper and lower engine mount torque strut attachment bolt(s) at the shock tower bracket and the suspension crossmember, to confirm that the engine mount torque struts are freely adjustable in those parts. Re-thread the bolts into the engine as you would during installation, without tightening them yet. With the upward force, rotate the upper engine rearward until 119 mm (4.70 inch) fits between the center of the last attaching stud on the engine mount bracket and the center of the hole for the washer hose clip on the shock tower bracket. When the engine is properly aligned, use a torque wrench to tighten the upper and lower engine mount torque strut bolts to 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.) and next you should lower the floor jack.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Engine Mount Torque Strut on Dodge Neon?
    A:
Take off the bolts on both sides of the shock tower bracket and the engine mount bracket and then remove the upper engine mount torque strut. Start with a hoist to get the vehicle up and then remove the slash splash shield and the pencil strut for the lower engine mount torque strut. Then, unbolt the strut to the crossmember and bracket and remove the engine mount torque strut from the lower end. After getting the top engine mount torque strut into position, secure it with mounting bolts and perform the adjustment needed for the struts. For the lower engine mount torque strut, set it in its locations, install the bolts and proceed with the engine mount torque strut adjustment. After that, attach the pencil strut, the accessory drive belt splash shield and bring the car down.
