2005 Dodge Neon Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Repair the Release Bearing on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Before serving and correcting the clutch release assembly of a T350, remove the transaxle first, plus the modular clutch if one is used. Place the lever and bearing assembly upright and in-line, slide your fingers under the release lever in the pivot stud socket and slowly pull to remove it without harming the spring clip. Open the lever as far as it will go and remove it while taking care not to hurt the keeping tabs on the bearing. Check the bearing which comes pre-lubricated and sealed and do not immerse it in oil or solvent; a smooth, quiet turn under light pressure shows it is fine, but rough or noisy motion means it requires changing. If the clips on the back of the clutch lever are broken or not right, swap out the whole lever. For installation, put a little grease on the pivot ball in the lever and in its arms and secure the lever onto the bearing so that the small pegs from the bearing fit onto the lever arms. Attach the bearing and lever assembly to the input shaft retainer, lock the clutch lever to its pivot ball, set the modular clutch in place if equipped and lastly fasten the transaxle assembly.
