2005 Dodge Neon Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: To begin working with the high output starter motor, disconnect and isolate the negative end of the battery cable. Afterward, remove the hose from the intake manifold and move the air cleaner box to reach the starter. Unbolt the starter first and then remove the starter assembly whole. First, loosen the latch to take out the starter solenoid connector, then the positive battery connector and remember to leave the alternator connected. When you have taken out the starter, wipe any dirt or corrosion from the cable and terminal ends prior to installing the new wiring onto the solenoid. Make sure the positive lead of your battery is fastened to the starter, lock the output connector on the alternator into position and screw the captive nut until it reaches 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Proper charging and cranking depend on the alternator output terminal being attached to the starter solenoid's battery positive terminal. Completely connect the solenoid connector to the starter, ensuring the latch snaps in place. Open the housing, align the starter's face with it and start the first bottom bolt while screwing it in until it feels tight. Connect the ground cable to the upper starter mounting bolt and make sure it is aligned before you tighten the mounting bolts to 54 Nm or 40 ft. lbs. After that, put the air cleaner box into place and join the inlet hose to the intake manifold and resume battery connection by connecting the negative battery cable.
