2005 Dodge Neon Sway Bar Kit Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Sway Bar Kit on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Raise the vehicle, then use a wrench to rotate the link bolt's nut after securing the upper retainer. Following that, remove the bolts and retainers that secure the sway bar cushions and pull out the bar along with the cushions attached. To take the cushions off, pull the covers back at the slit and roll them down the bar. Inspect the cushions and links for signs of excessive wear, any cracks, damage or distortion before installing the sway bar kit and change anything that does not meet the inspection. Should you take out the sway bar, fit the dampener cushions over the bar with their slots facing upward and place them on the straight beam next to the place where it curves. It is important that the curve on the outboard ends points downward to avoid interference with the control arms. Put the sway bar into place on the crossmember at the front, making sure each cushion's notches point toward the front of the car and are aligned with the raised bumps of the stamping. Align the raised beads from the retainers with the grooves of your cushions and then add in the bolts but be careful not to fasten them securely. Carefully fit the bushings in place by turning the lower bolt of the sway bar links through their bushings, the sway bar, the inner link bushings, lower control arm and upper retainer/nut and bushing, leaving the link assemblies loose for now. Drop the car and, if you have to, place it on a platform hoist or alignment rack so you can get to the sway bar bolts at an accessible height. Afterward, tighten each sway bar link by holding the upper retainer/nut with a wrench and turning the link bolt to 31 Nm (275 inch lbs.) and tighten the sway bar cushion retainer bolts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.).
