2005 Dodge Neon Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Disassemble the Control Arm on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: To start, take out the lower ball joint by easing the seal boot off with your screwdriver or similar tool. Fix the Receiver, Special Tool 6908-2, to a press, guide the bottom of the ball joint into the cup and position it so that the lower control arm is supported during the replacement. Put the larger end of Special Tool 6804 onto the ball joint and connect Special Tool 6804 to the press. Then, press the ball joint completely out of the lower control arm into the receiver with the press. After completing your cutting, remove all the pieces, including the tools, ball joint and arm. Using a vise, place the Ball Joint Press, Special Tool C-4212F, on the back isolator bushing for improved control. Insert the Receiver Cup which is Special Tool 9356-4, into the Ball Joint Press and fasten the set screw. Fit the Remover, Special Tool 9356-2, to the tip of the Ball Joint Press screw-drive and then set the Reaction Plate, Special Tool 9356-3, across the end of the control arm with the arrows facing the bushing flange. Position the Reaction Plate against the outer part of the Receiver Cup and use the Press's screw-drive to make contact with the Remover and the bushing equal across its entire circumference. Press the bushing out of the lower control arm completely, then use the screw-drive to remove the lower arm and the bushing and take out the Reaction Plate next.
