2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before you service the fuel rail, be sure to release all the pressure, since this system is always pressurized, even without the engine running. Be sure not to bend the tubes of the left and right fuel rails as you remove them. To start, remove the fuel tank filler tube cap and carry out the fuel system pressure release method. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, remove both the air duct and air box at the throttle body and remove the air resonator mounting bracket with two bolts. Remove the latch clip and fuel line from the fuel rail with the needed tool and remove vacuum lines from the throttle body with any necessary equipment. To detach the fuel injector lines at each injector, simply push the red slider so it faces the fuel injector, push on the tab and pull out the connector. To determine each injector's location, the factory fuel injection wiring harness is tagged. Separate the electrical connections on the throttle body sensors, remove all ignition coils and loosen the four fuel rail bolt connections. Softly rock and gently pull the fuel rail on the left side, waiting for all the injectors to clear the machined holes. Do the same on the right side after that. Get rid of the fuel rail and attached injectors from the inside of the engine. At the time of installing new fuel injectors, clear the bores in the intake manifold, add a small amount of engine oil to each injector O-ring and fit the fuel rail/injector assembly onto the openings in the cylinder head. Slide in each injector one at a time into the cylinder head, not touching the O-rings and push them both down until they have sealed into the fuel rail. Set the mounting bolts for the fuel rails in place and tighten, before putting in the six ignition coils. Attach the wires from the electrical connectors to the throttle body and fuel injectors to ensure they remain in position. Rejoin any missing vacuum lines, fit the air resonator mounting bracket and latch clip to the air box, attach the fuel line to the fuel rail and assemble the air box and the air duct. After that, attach the battery cable and turn the engine on. Look for any leaks.
