2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Injector Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Injector for late on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: During fuel injector service, six vertical high-pressure fuel injectors are taken out and then put back in, all mounted between the intake and exhaust valves in the cylinder head. First, take away both negative battery cables and cover their ends with plastic covers, then take the breather assembly and valve cover off. Following this, loosen and take out the 12 fuel injector wire harness nuts, then unscrew the integrated fuel injector wire/valve cover gasket after removing the engine wiring harness connector at each side. Open each tube and unscrew the high-pressure fuel line and the nut from the end of the connector retainer. After that, use a special tool, tool number #9015, to extract the connectors, followed by removing the fuel injector clamp bolts and the rocker arm assembly. Insert the mounting stud of tool #9010 into the bolt hole, place the clamps around the injector and press the pivoting handle to remove the injector vertically. Throw away the injector sealing washer and examine the new injector for issues before cleaning the cylinder head bore and fitting a new copper washer with a thickness of 1.5 mm. First, lubricate the washer and be sure to apply clean engine oil to the O-ring, then fit the injector so its connector is facing toward the intake manifold. Screw in the hold-down clamp bolts to 5 Newton metres, reduce the torque and install the high-pressure connector along with its retaining nut, tightening both to 15 Newton metres. Take the turn of the high-pressure connector to 50 Nm and check the injector hold-down bolts to make sure they are at 10 Nm. Don't overtighten the injector solenoid wires as you assemble them, reinstall the exhaust rocker arm assembly and adjust the valve lash. Afterward, fit the high-pressure fuel line using another wrench. After that, put the valve cover back on, reinstall the breather assembly and attach the negative battery cables.
