2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Pitman Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Pitman Arm on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The pitman arm can only be serviced or repaired after first removing the drag link from the pitman arm and right knuckle using Puller C-4150A. Position and mark the arms and the shaft so you can see where they belong, then remove the nut and washer from the pitman arm. Puller C-4150A or an equivalent tool should be used to get rid of the pitman arm. When installing, place the reference marks correctly and then install the pitman arm. Fit both the lock washer and the retaining nut to the pitman shaft, tightening the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Put the drag link on the pitman arm, add the nut and tighten it to a torque value of 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), then make an additional 90° of turn. Take away the support posts, slowly take the vehicle down to the ground, place the steering wheel in the center and set the toe settings. Ensure you tighten the tie rod adjustment sleeve clamp bolts to a torque of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.), while placing the clamp's retaining bolt on the lower side of the adjustment sleeve.
