2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before trying to service or repair the power steering pump, drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir and slacken the serpentine belt. Don't take out the fitting on the pump for the high-pressure hose; if it does become loose on its own, reattach it by tightening it to 57 - 67 Nm (40 - 50 ft. lbs.). If the fitting comes off the pump body, the inner components will drop out, so you need to get a new pump. After that, remove both the return and the pressure hose. Loose the three bolts on the pump that attach it to the cylinder head through the pulley holes, unbolt the pump bracket, take out the bolts in the intake plenum from the block and use the movable joint on your engine to tilt or lift it gently. Loose the center tube clamp inside the intake plenum and pull the plenum from your car. Take the power steering pump out from the engine compartment, removing it from the top. Set up the power steering pump securely into the top section of the engine compartment, hook up the inner cooler tube and secure it with a clamp from radiator support. Install all the six bolts for the intake plenum and secure the clamp on the inner cooler tube at the plenum. Insert the three pump mounting bolts into the holes on both walls of the pulley, tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) and fasten the pump bracket onto the block. Put the pressure line back in, secure the return hose to the pump and reservoir, tighten the pressure line to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.), belt in the serpentine drive and fill the power steering pump.
