2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: To handle the impact sensor in normal cab models with air bags, remember to unhook and isolate the vehicle battery negative cable, stay away for two minutes to discharge the system capacitor and turn off the supplemental restraint system to be secure. Do not hit or drop the side impact sensor, since either action can harm it or throw off its calibration; in case of a drop, you should replace it. To take the trim out, adjust the front seat to its closest point, isolate the battery by detaching the negative cable and finally unscrew the B-pillar panel. Move the front outboard seat belt and retractor out of the B-pillar, then remove the nut that holds the side impact sensor to the B-pillar on the inside. Work your way through the retractor hole to remove the anti-rotation pin and mounting stud and afterwards disconnect the wire connector between the car body and the sensor. Put the side impact sensor into the retractor hole, connect the body wire harness and engage its anti-rotation pin and stud before anything else. Screw the nut onto the sensor until the torque is at 8 N.m (70 in.lbs.) and then put back the front outboard seat belt and its retractor. Do not reattach the negative wire of the battery till the supplemental restraint system test has been finished.
