2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Upper Ball Joint on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Raise the vehicle and hold the axle up securely, after that, take off the tire and wheel to access the upper ball joint. After that, remove the upper ball joint lower retaining nut and divide the upper ball joint from the knuckle with special tool #8677. To get at the ball joint for removal, untie the sensor wire from the upper control arm and move out of the way the knuckle. Applying extreme pressure lubricant on the areas with threads will help the tool run smoothly for longer and work securely when you remove or install it. Push on the ball joint from the upper control arm by using tools C-4212-F (PRESS) and 9652 (Driver). When installing the tool, use heavy pressure lubrication on all of its threads. Secure the ball joint in place in the upper control arm by pressing it in with tools C-4212-F (press), 9652 (Driver) and 8975-2 (Receiver). After that, set the upper ball joint inside the knuckle, hold it in place with the retaining nut tightened to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) and link the wheel sensor wire to the connection point in the upper control arm. After that, connect the tire and wheel to the vehicle, take away the supports, lower it back down and do a wheel alignment.
