2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Regarding repair and service on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, you should disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, remove the radiator fan and get rid of the accessory drive belt. After that, remove the crankshaft damper bolt and remove the damper using Special Tools 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller. Before fitting a damper, check and clean both the damper bore and the smaller end of your crankshaft carefully to avoid possible harm. Line up the damper's slot with the crankshaft's key and then slide the damper on the crankshaft a bit. Introduce Special Tool 8512-A to your work by screwing the nut onto the threaded rod, positioning the roller bearing so the hardened side faces the nut and move the hardened washer onto the rod. Apply Mopar Nickel Anti-Seize or an alternative to the threads on the threaded rod. With Special Tool 8512-A, press the damper onto the crankshaft and then tighten the crankshaft damper bolt to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.). After that, connect the negative battery cable, secure the accessory drive belt and fit the radiator fan.
