2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing and repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, first remove the negative battery cable, the radiator fan and the accessory drive belt. After that, get rid of the crankshaft damper bolt and take out the damper using Special Tools 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller. It is important to clean the damper bore and the crankshaft nose perfectly before installing the damper to avoid major damage. Locate the slot in the crankshaft damper over the key and slide it onto the crankshaft just a bit. Take Special Tool 8512-A, thread the nut on the rod first, add the roller bearing so that the hardened end faces the nut, then slide on the hardened washer. Put a coat of Mopar Nickel Anti-Seize or an alternative product on the threads of the threaded rod. Press the damper onto the crankshaft with Special Tool 8512-A and then fit and screw the crankshaft damper bolt until tension is reached at 175 Nm (130 ftlbs.). After that, put back the radiator fan, the accessory drive belt and reattach the negative cable to the battery.
