2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Vapor Canister with the NVLD Pump on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The pump is connected to the EVAP canister which sits behind the left-rear tire, in the left-rear quarterpanel. Lift and hold the vehicle up, then take off the tire at the rear left. Remove the plastic splash shield from the area behind the left-rear tire to reach the EVAP canister or NVLD pump. Take out the connector from the pump and then gently pull the vapor/vacuum hoses. Pan and Bracket Work Insert the two harness connection pods onto the main harness by sliding them up to the bottom pipe near the top of the newsam assembly. To release the NVLD pump, pull it out by pressing on the tab and turning the pump counterclockwise around 70 degrees, then remove the O-ring from the EVAP canister. To install, put a new NVLD pump O-ring on the EVAP canister, place the pump inside the canister and turn it until the tab is lined up with the notch. After that, set the canister in place in the mounting bracket and screw and tighten the two nuts connecting the canister to the mounting bracket. Attach the canister or pump assembly to the body and tighten the included three bracket mounting nuts. Join the vapor/vacuum lines to the NVLD pump and EVAP canister, ensuring they are tight and free from any damage and inspect for possible leaks in the vapor/vacuum lines, NVLD pump, filter and EVAP canister purge solenoid, because leaks might lead to a Diagnostic Trouble Code. After that, attaches the electrical connector to the pump, fix the plastic shield over the left-rear tire and then replace the left-rear tire.
