2005 Jeep Liberty Clutch Fork Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Clutch Fork on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first part of repairing the clutch release fork is to pull out the transmission. Take off release bearing 1 from the side it's locked to, then remove the bearing. Visually check the bearing slide area located on the back of the transmission's front bearing retainer. If it is scored, worn or cracked, replace the old retainer with a new one. Inspect the release fork and the pivot to see if the pivot is safe and in good condition and check that the fork has not been affected by wear and tear. Change the release fork retainer spring if it has suffered damage. When fitting, first spread Mopar high temperature bearing grease or an equivalent onto the wide end of a long, thin flat blade screwdriver. This grease should then be carefully applied to the crankshaft pilot bearing before you push the screwdriver into the clutch disc hub and down to the bearing. Coat the splines in the input shaft, the surface of the bearing retainer slide, the fork pivot and the release fork pivot with a lubricant. After installing release fork 2, update the package bearing 1 secured to release fork 2 and install the transmission again.
