2005 Jeep Liberty Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step in clutch release bearing service or repair is to take out the transmission. Remove release bearing 1 from release fork 2 and take out the bearing. Look at the bearing slide surface on the front bearing retainer and change the retainer if it has scoring, wear or cracks. Examine the release fork's pivot and fork, making sure the pivot is intact, in good shape and it's not warped; if the fork's retainer spring is bent or damaged, change it. When installing, apply a bit of high temperature grease onto a long shank, small diameter flat blade screwdriver and insert it through the hub to reach the pilot bearing. Apply grease on the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, both pivots on the fork and the release fork pivot surface. Finally, use the new release, secured to fork 2 and reinstall the transmission.
