2005 Jeep Wrangler Car Speakers Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Upgrade Car Speakers on 2005 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you replace the air bag speakers, you need to disable the air bag system by taking out the battery negative cable, unplugging it and waiting two minutes to empty the system's capacitor. To work on the front speaker, remove the two screws from the outboard side of the speaker bezel on the instrument panel and gently lift at the edges with a trim stick to detach the bezel from its clips. Move on by removing the screws at each side of the speaker with a hex key, pulling the speaker away to access the wire harness connector, then separating the connector from the car's wiring. Remove the negative lead from the rear speaker battery cable and take out the speaker's mounting screws and grill. Then take the rear speaker out of the housing and disconnect the wire harness. For putting the speaker in place, attach the connector to the speaker, fasten it under the instrument panel and fasten the four retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 1.1 N.m (10 in.lbs). Mount the speaker bezel in place and tighten its screws until they register 2.2 N.m (20 in.lbs), before attaching the black line of the battery cable to the negative terminal. For the rear quad switch, link the wire harness, mount the speaker inside the housing, attach the speaker grill and screws and lastly reconnect the battery negative cable.
