2005 Jeep Wrangler Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Fuel Rail on 2005 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before the fuel rail can be removed, release the fuel pressure, take off the fuel tank cap and disconnect the negative battery cable. Separate the air duct at the throttle body, unlatch the fuel line from the fuel rail with the special tool and take out whatever vacuum lines you find at the throttle body. Drain the engine coolant first, then get rid of the thermostat and thermostat housing and, finally, the PCV hose and valve on the valve cover. Start by turning the two lower bolts on the 2.4L engine loose and remove the three mounting bolts from the upper intake manifold. Detach both of the big engine harness connectors from the intake manifold at the back. Also remove the injection wiring harness clips from the mounting bracket. Push the red slider away at all four fuel injectors, depress the tab and pull out the connectors. After removing the two rail mounting bolts, move the fuel rail gently, so that the injectors get to the next step unharmed and then lift it off. Upon installing, carefully clean the holes in the intake manifold and add a small drop of oil onto all the fuel injector O-rings. Replace each fuel injector into its cylinder by guiding it gently through the small hole in the head without damaging the seal. Put the fuel rail into place on the cylinder heads and press it down until the lower side of each injector touches the flat shoulder. Next, tighten the fuel rail bolts to the exact torque given in the manual. Lock every fuel injector connector together and snap both injection wiring harness clips into the brackets. Once again connect the main engine harness wires, tighten the five bolts that hold the intake manifold securely with engine-verify levels and attach the PCV valve and hose to the system. Attach the thermostat and radiator hose, fill the system with coolant, insert the required lines into the throttle body, hook the fuel line latch clip and fuel line to the fuel rail and hear the car start after fueling. After that, connect the duct to the throttle body, return the battery cable, start the engine and look for leaks.
