2006 Chrysler Pacifica Torque Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Torque Converter on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: To work on the torque converter, first take the transmission and torque converter out of the vehicle and put a drain pan under the converter housing end. Make sure the lifting article or work surface can support the weight, since shifting the torque converter will cause the towable to become unstable. Pull the torque converter forward just enough for the center hub to pass by the oil pump seal, then disconnect it from the transmission. After taking out the convert hub and drive, look for any sharp edges, burrs, scratches or nicks on these parts and buff them gently if you find any, using either 320/400 grit paper or crocus cloth so the silver seal isn't damaged. Give the converter hub and oil pump seal lip a light lubrication of transmission fluid before you locate the converter on the transmission, being careful not to scratch either the pump seal or bushing. Guide the torque converter into the opening where the oil pump seal attaches, put the hub in the oil pump and push the converter inside before spinning it until it fits. Place a scale and straightedge on the converter, so the back of the straightedge is 1/2 inch in front of the converter lugs when the converter is fully seated. If that's the case, use a C-clamp to temporarily secure the converter to the housing, return the transmission to the vehicle and fill it with the recommended amount of fluid.
