2006 Chrysler Pacifica Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: First, look at the car's maintenance schedules to find when you should change both the fluid and filter in the A/T. When you change your transmission oil, change the filter and wipe the magnet in the oil pan with a clean, dry cloth. Should the transaxle be taken apart, replace the oil and the filter. Raise the car on the hoist and set a drain container beneath the transaxle oil pan. After removing both nuts holding the cradle to the engine-to-engine mount, raise the whole block with a jack and a few blocks of wood to make removal of the pan a bit easier. Loose the bolts holding the pan, tap one corner to snap the seal and remove the pan. Swap in a new filter and O-ring at the valve body's bottom, clean the oil pan and magnet, use new Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant to fit the pan and tighten the bolts at 19 Nm (165 inch lbs.). Open the dipstick tube, pour four quarts of Mopar ATF+4, start the motor and let it idly run for one minute before you do anything else. After you press the parking brake and depress the service brake, shift the lever through each position and complete the process in park or neutral. Watch the transaxle fluid to make sure it goes above the low mark by about 3 mm (1/8 inch) and leave the engine at full operating temperature (180°F) before checking the fluid again. Firmly push the dipstick in place to avoid getting dirt inside the transaxle. When using this method, allow the transaxle to get hot, use a proper fluid suction device and confirm the suction line is inserted to the lowest part of the oil pan through the dipstick tube. Evacuate the fluid using the method explained in your owner's manual, take out the suction line, add four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 into the dipstick opening, start the engine and repeat the fluid level check as before, confirming the dipstick is seated all the way during all four steps.
