2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Upper Intake Manifold on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Begin the maintenance of the upper intake manifold by cutting off the inlet air temperature sensor and make-up air hose from the clean air hose. After removing the air cleaner housing and clean air hose assembly, take the negative cable off the battery. After that, remove both cables from the top of the throttle and loosen the hold on the MAP sensor, IAC motor and TPS, then unplug the connectors. Separate each hose for the proportional purge, brake booster and PCV at the intake manifold. Take out the support bracket from the back of the rear intake manifold, unfasten the intake manifold and lift the upper intake manifold up. If you notice more fluid flowing than usual, shut the lower intake manifold openings to stop any parts from entering inside. Removing gaskets and cleaning where the seals sit is necessary. Look for any cracks, distortion or surface warping in the manifold and swap it out if you find these signs. If the manifold gasket has any damage or is too swollen, it should be replaced. Installation depends on the lower intake manifold being revealed if it is covered. Wipe down all seal areas with approved chemicals and add new seals wherever needed. Put the new seals on the manifold and fasten the upper intake to the lower intake, using 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) of torque in the correct order. Now, reattach the PCV hose, MAP electrical connector, proportional purge hoses and brake booster hose. Coil up and connect the wiring for the IAC motor and TPS and fit the cables for the throttle and speed control to the bracket, attaching them to the throttle lever afterward. Reattach the black power cable to the battery, set the clean air hose clamp to a torque of 1.7 Nm (15 inch lbs.), attach the air cleaner housing and air cleaner hose and link the make-up air hose and inlet air temperature sensor.
