2006 Chrysler Town & Country Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Before starting to service or repair the oil pan, unplug the negative cable from the battery and remove the engine's oil dipstick. Jack the vehicle up on a hoist and drain the engine oil, after that remove the drive belt splash shield. Then, take off the attaching bolt on the strut to transaxle and loosen the bolts that link the strut to your engine block. Pull up the transaxle case cover, remove the oil pan fasteners, take out the oil pan and then remove the gasket. Use solvent to clean the oil pan and then dry it with a cloth so that all gasket material is gone from the attachment surfaces on the pan and block. Dip the mesh oil screen and pick-up tube in clean solvent. Examine the threads of both the drain plug and its hole; fix or restore them if they are damaged and put in a new plug gasket, making sure it is tightened to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). If you see any bends or distortion on the oil pan mounting flange, work to make them straight and also check the oil screen and pick-up tube. While doing the installation, wipe the joining areas clean and use a 1/8 inch bead of Mopar Engine Rtv Genii to seal the parting line between the chain case and rear seal retainer. Lay a new pan gasket on the oil pan, insert it into place and tighten the fasteners to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Rescrew the lid of the transaxle case and the strut bolt into the housing, plus tighten the bolts of the bending brace. Set the drive belt splash shield in place, raise the car up and put the old oil dipstick back. After that, attach the negative cable to the battery and bring the oil to the correct level in the crankcase.
