2006 Chrysler Town & Country Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose on a 3.3L/3.8L Engine for Return Hose on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Take off the cap from the power steering fluid reservoir and then use a siphon pump to bring out most of the fluid inside. Set an oil drain pan beneath the car to catch any oil that leaks. Remove the power steering hose from the reservoir by taking out the clamp. Go down along the hose to the ABS bracket, open the retainer on the hose and pull the tube out. Lift the vehicle and take out the front emissions vapor canister. Now take out the bolt holding the return hose routing clamp to the suspension cradle crossmember and also the two bolts fastening the power steering cooler to the crossmember reinforcement. Open the connector at the lowest point on the return hose and remove the return hose with cooler from your car. For building, take out any previous O-rings from the power steering hose ends, clean the ends and the port on the power steering gear using a lint-free towel. Lubricate and install a new O-ring on the hose that leads into the gear box, using neat power steering fluid. Bend both tube ends as little as possible and keep all hoses away from the exhaust and other unfavorable things to stop any possible problems. Move the hose with the cooler on it toward the reservoir, avoiding sharp angles and slip the steering gear hose into the port without tightening the hose nut just yet. Fasten the rear hose tubes to the suspension cradle crossmember by attaching the tubes to the routing clamp and tightening the bolt to 23 Nm or 200 inch lbs. Secure the power steering fluid cooler to the cradle crossmember reinforcement using mounting bolts tightened to 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.) as well as the pressure hose routing clamp. Secure the hose tube nut fastening the hose to the power steering gear port with 31 Nm (275 inch lbs.), put back the front emissions vapor canister, return the vehicle to floor level and fasten the hose tube into its holder on the ABS bracket. Finally, fit the return hose to the reservoir and check that your hose clamp lies past the bead of the reservoir's fitting, then fill and bleed the power steering system with the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation Procedure and check for leaks before finishing.
