2006 Dodge Caravan Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: This sensor can be found at the back of the cylinder head. Take off the negative battery cable and unplug the sensors from the electrical connectors. After that, undo the screws holding the sensor and carefully remove the sensor from the car. Loose the screw holding the target magnet on the rear end of the camshaft and remove it. Attach the magnet by matching its slots to the locating dowels in the pins at the end of the camshaft and use 3 N.m (30 in. lbs.) of torque to secure it tightly; don't use too much torque, because over-torquing can result in cracks inside the magnet, requiring replacement if this happens. Next, put in the camshaft position sensor and screw it into place at 12.9 N.m (115 in. lbs.) torque. Reattach the wire harness to the CPS after that and make sure to reattach the negative battery cable last.
