2006 Dodge Charger Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: Should You Reface the Brake Disc with Every Brake Pad Replacement on 2006 Dodge Charger?
A: Only replace the brake disc when the disc's surface is badly scored, warped or there are complaints about the roughness of the brakes or pedal pulsation. For this kind of repair, a recovery on an in-car lathe is needed to avoid excessive runout when turning the disc to the vehicle's hub and bearing. You must not machine the brake disc's surface any thinner because the minimum allowable thickness prevents further damage to your brake disc. On most discs, the allowable minimum thickness is marked on an un-machined area or stamped into the hat, but for SRT8 vehicles, this specification appears on the vented part of the disc. Before you add the lathe, check the face of the brake disc and both the hub adapters to make sure there are no chips or rust on them. Always read the instructions from the brake lathing machine company and turn the brake disc on both sides together to prevent tapered or uneven cuts. While refacing, the Total Indicator Reading and thickness should not exceed their set limits, as the specification table has particular brake disc machining requirements.
