2006 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: To replace the correct exhaust manifold, you should first disconnect the negative battery cable and lift the vehicle. After you have loosened the bolts and nuts holding the exhaust pipe to the engine, then lower the car to the ground. The next task is to take out the exhaust heat shield, unbolt and unscrew everything holding the manifold on the cylinder head and take off the manifold and its gasket. In case studs come loose with the nuts during removal, you should replace them and add sealer to the rough thread ends to prevent water from leaking. Attach the exhaust manifold and gasket to the cylinder head's two studs and then fit conical washers and nuts onto these studs. Attach the remaining conical washers and secure them with bolts and nuts that are tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.), starting at the center arm and going outward. Apply the exhaust heat shields again, making sure you do not tighten the screws too hard or else they may bend or break. After that, join the end of the exhaust pipe to the manifold and attach it using bolts, nuts and retainers, but tighten them only up to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
