2005 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Left Exhaust Manifold on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before you work on the left exhaust manifold, remove the negative cable from the battery and raise and support the vehicle. Cover the exhaust assembly with a towel before removing the bolts, nuts and lowering the vehicle. Remove the exhaust heat shields next, then take off the bolts, nuts and washers that hold the manifold on. Once those are gone, remove both the manifold and the gasket. If studs with nuts come out during installation, install separate studs coated with sealant to stop water from leaking. Place the engine exhaust manifold and gasket onto the studs near the cylinder head, insert conical washers and tighten nuts onto them. Place the other conical washers in place and make sure the bolts and nuts are tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) beginning at the center arm and then tighten them in order moving outward. Put the exhaust heat shields back in, being careful not to make the fasteners too tight which could cause distortion or cracking. At the end, join the exhaust pipe to the manifold and add bolts, nuts and retainers, tighten them to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque.
