2006 Dodge Durango Differential Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a 9 1/4 Rear Axle Differential Cover on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: To do differential cover service and repair on a 9 1/4 rear axle, take out the wafts link bell crank bolt from the differential cover first. Following that, remove the differential cover bolts and then lift off the cover and drain the fluid from the bin. Wash the differential cover completely and put a ring of orange Mopar T" Axle RTV Sealant or a similar product on the cover afterwards. Installing the cover should happen within three to five minutes; otherwise, the cover needs to be cleaned and new RTV applied to form a reliable seal. After putting on the cover, secure it with the bolts in a zigzag pattern until the torque is 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Add 2.13 L (4.501 pts.) of gear lubricant to the differential, not going all the way to the fill plug opening. Cover up the fill hole with the plug, then tighten the watts link bolt to 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.) after putting it back in place. The bell crank bolt features a Loctite patch, so only new bolts should be used; if there is no new bolt, remove the old one, clean it and add Loctite 242 to the screw threads.
