2006 Dodge Grand Caravan A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Prepare for the Removal and Installation of an A/C Condenser to Ensure Optimal Performance on 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Be sure to keep track of where all seals are located on the car because they bridge airflow between the ac condenser and the radiator and must be fitted correctly to make sure the ac and engine continue to cool properly. Take out the refrigerant from the system and remove the front part that covers the motor. Pull out the transmission oil cooler hose from the fitting on the transmission oil cooler tapping block on the left side of the A/C condenser and then separate the A/C discharge line from the right side of the A/C condenser. Cover the opened discharge line, liquid line and condenser ports with either a plug or tape. Pop the retaining clips to free the upper A/C condenser brackets from the radiator, then raise the condenser straight up, lift it off the radiator base brackets and gently remove it from the engine compartment. Before you reassemble the parts, add refrigerant oil to the air conditioning system by pouring 50 milliliters (1.7 fluid ounce) into the compressor. Use the oil type that goes with your car's A/C compressor, be sure each air seal is in place and reassemble the radiator and condenser properly. Insert the A/C condenser in the engine compartment and prop it straight down to place its lower mount brackets in the radiator and then secure the upper brackets to the radiator, making sure the upper retaining clips are all the way in. Unplug the tapes or caps from both open refrigerant line fittings and the condenser and join the A/C line and the A/C liquid line to the A/C condenser. Attach the transmission oil lines to the quick-connect fittings on the transmission cooler tapping block until they are fully in place. In the end, set up the front fascia, get rid of the refrigerant and bring it back into the system.
