2006 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install the Brake Master Cylinder from the Power Brake Booster on 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: To take out the master cylinder, press the brake pedal until it feels firm, then turn off the engine and take out both battery terminals, the battery shield and the battery itself. Dab the Brake Parts Cleaner or a similar liquid on all surfaces inside the brake fluid reservoir and master cylinder. Open the main reservoir and unplug the wiring harness connector from the brake fluid level switch, plus unhook the front and rear brake tubes from the cylinder body and seal the two brake tube openings. Wipe away any dirt around where the master cylinder connects to the booster and then loosen the two bolts fastening it to the booster and pull the master cylinder right out. Change the vacuum seal on the master cylinder mounting flange, but remember to do it gently, using no sharp instruments. While fixing a new master cylinder, choose the appropriate type for your car's brake system and attach a new vacuum seal, straight in the fitting groove. Set the master cylinder onto the studs of the power brake booster, matching the bracket on the booster with the master cylinder piston and attach the two nuts, tightening each one to a torque of 25 Nm (225 inch lbs.). While connecting the brake tubes, leave them a bit apart from other items and be sure the flexible parts are slack; also tighten the tube nuts to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Attach the wiring harness to the brake fluid level switch, re-install the battery, clamp and shield and lastly connect the positive and negative terminals from the battery. Pour fresh Mopar Brake Fluid into the master cylinder and drive on the road to check the brakes.
