2006 Dodge Magnum Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal Assembly on 2006 Dodge Magnum?
A: Since the rear oil seal is built into the seal adapter, they need to be serviced together. Disconnect the negative battery cable first and then lift the vehicle. Take out the retaining bolts of the splash shield, after which the shield, the structural collar and the transmission come off. Once that's done, take out the bolts attaching the flex plate, the backing plate and flex plate and remove the oil pan. It is not possible to replace the integrated, stamped steel rear seal with the cast aluminum rear seal adapter and assembly. With the seal retainer attaching screws removed, take out the crankshaft rear oil seal/adapter. Before installation, wipe the sealing areas clean and attach the seal assembly with special tool 6926-1. Screw the seal bolts lightly, then put Special Tools 8225 on the pan rail by attaching it with the oil pan fasteners, so the "2.7L" mark points toward the cylinder block. Firmly clamp Special Tool 8225 and turn all the screws in the seal assembly to 12 Nm. After removing the special tool, set the oil pan, flex plate, backing plate and attaching bolts into place. Put the transmission into place, tighten the retaining bolts for the lower splash shield and fix the splash shield. After you lift the car, put oil in, connect the negative battery cable and start the engine while checking for leaks.
