2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Heater Core on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: For a heater core service on a car with an air bag, turn off the air bag system by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable, let two minutes pass for the capacitor to defuse and then release the wires in sequence. The first step is to eliminate the HVAC housing and the foam seal from the heater core tubes. With a dual zone heating-A/C system, you can take out the linkage rod to get to the heater core. After that, remove the two screws holding the heater core tube bracket to the housing, then remove the bracket. Open the HVAC housing at its front and gently take out the heater core, then look at the foam seals and replace any that are damaged. When installing, fit the heater core into the front area of the HVAC housing, place the bracket for the tube over the HVAC housing and secure it with two screws tightened to 2.2 N.m (20 in. lbs.). If the linkage rod and foam seal are part of your removal, put them back onto the heater core tubes. When you change the heater core, flush the cooling system before placing the HVAC housing in place.
