2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Properly Service and Repair a Brake Line on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: A brake tube made from preformed metal brake is preferred, but double-wall steel tube can act as a substitute replacement when no official metal brake tube is available. Use a Tubing Cutter to trim away the torn section and afterward use a reamer on the cut edges for a proper flare. Put the replacement tube nut onto the tube and then put it into the flaring tool. Put the gauge form over the tube end and keep pushing it through the flaring tool jaws so it contacts the part of the gauge that corresponds with the diameter of your tube. Screw the tool bar firmly down the tube, slide the plug into the gauge, place the disc directly over the gauge and move the tapered flaring screw into the recess in the middle of the disc. Tighten the handle so the plug gauge touches the flaring tool squarely; this will begin the inverted flare and you can then remove the gauge and do the full flare. To do ISO flaring, cut the old tube with a Tubing Cutter, remove the burrs from its inside and screw on the tube nut. Use the flaring tool and put the tube inside so it is flush at the top, then tighten the tool bar onto the tube. Set the appropriate adaptor onto the threaded end of the flaring tool, apply grease to the flare end, put the adaptor and yoke screw over the tube and tighten the yoke screw until it fits securely on the bar.
