2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Crankshaft on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: You should start by removing the vibration damper, then take off the rear oil seal retainer, after that the oil pan and finish with the oil pump pickup for crankshaft removal. Remove the windage tray/oil pan gasket and the timing chain cover after that and lift out the oil pump and the timing drive. Take off the rod bearing caps with their bearings, then tackle the main bearing caps and bearings and end with the thrust washers. After that, take out the crankshaft from the block. When installing, pick the suitable main bearings and place them in the block and caps, while making sure they have oil. Set the crankshaft into the block and add the thrust washers to the stands. Oil your cap bolts and then install the main bearing caps, tighten them to 20 foot pounds (27 Nm) in the first step and then turn them 90° more. Fit new washers onto crossbolts A, B, C and D and fasten them with 28 Nm of force. After finishing the first crossbolt torque and crankshaft end play check, locate the connecting rods on the crankshaft and install the rod bearing caps. Place the timing drive, oil pump, timing chain cover, rear main seal and retainer, windage tray/oil pan gasket, oil pickup tube, oil pan and finally the vibration damper before you install the engine.
