2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: You first need to remove the cylinder head before you can service or repair both intake and exhaust valves. The compression of the valve springs should be accomplished with adapter 8464 along with tool C-3422. Following this, get rid of the valve retaining locks, valve spring retainers, valve stem seals and valve springs. Clear any burrs from the grooves in the valve stem locks before setting them aside and confirm you have identified which valves go back into which places. Clean the valves wiped them well and remove those that show signs of burning, warping or cracking. Treat the inside of the valve guides with a simple guide cleaner to get rid of carbon and varnish residue. If the valve stem wears greater than 0.051 mm (0.002 inch), you should replace it instead of repairing it. Spray the valve stems with lubrication oil and put them into the cylinder head. Should the seats or valves be adjusted after grinding, ensure the valve stem is not too long, as you should replace the cylinder head if it is. After that, set new valve seals in place and next assemble the valve springs and valve retainers. With the Valve Spring Compressor Tool and adapter 8464, compress the valve springs again, put in the locks and take away the tool. When valves or seats are ground, measure from where the springs seat in the cylinder head to where the spring seats meet the retainer. Now, put the cylinder head back into position.
