2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Lash Adjusters in Hydraulic Roller Tappets on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Take away the negative cable from the battery, remove the air cleaner, intake manifold and the cylinder head cover in order to repair and service hydraulic roller tappets. Once the rocker arm assembly and push rods are removed, recognize the push rods and make note of where they were located. Take out the cylinder head and the bolt from tappet retainer 1 and after that, remove tappet retainer 1. Take the tappet out by twisting it and confirm which ones you can use again. Get the camshaft lobes checked as normal wear can cause engine issues. For installation, apply oil to the tappets. With 5.7L engines equipped with MDS, use standard roller tappets in all cylinders and put deactivating roller tappets into cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7; these are the ones with a pair of holes near the top for the latching pins. Fit the tappets back in the original places, add the tappet retainer with its bolt, then tighten the bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.). Bolt in the cylinder head, pushrods, rocker arm assembly, cylinder head cover, intake manifold and air cleaner. Links the negative battery cable and let the engine idle just past idle, checking that every hydraulic tappet becomes quiet and no leaks show up, before driving the car.
